Louis-Claude Daquin (or d'Acquin) (1694 - 1772) was a French composer writing in the Baroque and Galant styles. He was a virtuoso organist and harpsichordist. In 1727 Daquin was appointed organist at the church of St. Paul in Paris, besting Jean-Philippe Rameau for the job. Five years later he became organist, succeeding Louis Marchand, at the Cordeliers. In 1739 he became organist to the king. In 1755 he succeeded Antoine Calvière as titular organist at the cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris.

Noel is a French Christmas Carol. The Noels of the French Classical composers Daquin, Dandrieu and Balbastre are typically in variations form. These Noels work very well for church services as you can shorten or lengthen them to order. They are also great opportunities to show off all the colors available on your instrument. Be encouraged to use every single stop on your organ during at least one of the variations.
